The 2009 Great Bay 5K is in the books!

We want to thank all of the runners and walkers, all of our sponsors, and all of the volunteers for helping to make last year's race a success. For the first time, the race reached it's limit of 1,000 entrants and sold out before race day. Hurricane Rick raced across the continent from the Pacific coast of Mexico in time to bring us cool temperatures, rain, and wind on race day. Despite the weather, 770 hearty soles came out and raced on October 24. The race was won by Scott McGrath of Durham in a time of 15:25, and (for her second win here) Kara Hass of Chelmsford, MA in a time of 17:29. Please click HERE for full race results.

2009's sponsors include Sprague Energy (our lead sponsor for all 11 years the race has been run), Coca-Cola, Durham Marketplace, Exeter Area New Car Dealers Association, Federal Savings Bank, Hilton Garden Inn, New England Printing Co., and Unitil. Additional support was provided by BJ's Wholesale Club, Domino's Pizza, First Student Bus Co., Runner's Alley, and Sweet Scoops.

The race organizing committee worked hard all year, and did an extraordinary job of adapting to all the changes and new features of this year's race. Those committee members are Anne Taylor, Carolyn Fetter, Devin Wadleigh, Kelle Loughlin, Laura Flynn, Natalie Fortin. Peggy Mullin, Peter Flynn, Peter Wellenberger, and Wes Elmer.

The Great Bay 5K is an important fundraiser for the Great Bay Stewards, and helps support the scholarships, research grants, program funding, and other aspects of what the Stewards do to help further the protection, preservation, understanding and appreciation of the Great Bay Estuary. So we are extremely grateful for your participation in the race.

The 2010 Great Bay 5K will be on Saturday, October 23. Please check back here in the beginning of April for details and online registration.
