Each year, the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment presents Visionary Awards to two individuals, businesses, or organizations within each state and province bordering the Gulf. The awards recognize innovation, creativity, and commitment to protecting the marine environment. The Great Bay Stewards earned this year's award for their "dedication to the long-term protection of Great Bay by supporting education, research and lasting stewardship of the estuary."
The mission of the Gulf of Maine Council is to maintain and enhance environmental quality in the Gulf of Maine to allow for sustainable resource use by existing and future generations. Click here to visit the Council's web site.
The Visionary Award was presented on September 19 at Salem High School. Governor John Lynch and seacoast area Executive Councilor Beverly Hollingsworth presented the award to the Great Bay Stewards.
